PRESS RELEASE

Performance from 3pm – 5pm throughout floors 1-3

Sam Curtis is pleased to present a new performance by the London-based artists’ collective, Streamline.

Two artists from Streamline have been invited to perform new work in response to the Wenlock building. From 3pm the performance will take place throughout the corridors and communal spaces from the third floor down to the central atrium space where it will culminate at 4:40pm – 5pm.

The Wenlock building presents us with a unique situation and transitory space that is unsure of its functionality and in turn it solidifies our increasingly clear image of the artist and gallery as a business model. At a time when critical art practice is being ousted by practices that rely on a tried and tested formula for commercial success, and that pose no threat to the dominant order of things, The Wenlock building provides Streamline with a space to engage with this debate in a lively and direct way.

At times Streamline’s process appears to be improvised, whilst at others it appears so practiced, a sense of the mundane becomes overwhelming. Through this methodology, the artists from Streamline challenge the viewer to interrogate accepted notions of performance and what could be termed non-performance i.e. all other events or times that are not seen as performance.

Their concern with the architectural space elicits a response that resonates within the stimulating and dynamic dialogue between interior and exterior mechanisms of physical control in both the office environment and the gallery space.

Streamline formed in 1991, and since then have had many members. Today it consists of 12 artists and practitioners from a wide array of fields who research, write, perform and organise actions based within the corporate sector. Streamline work as one unit and often attempt to iron out their individuality through the use of uniforms and corporate paraphernalia.

Sam Curtis is an artist and curator based in London.

Part of the performance programme Human Resources presented by Campbell and Morris Projects as part of v22 gallery's The Wharf Road Project.
