School was a fully functioning educational institution created in a small room within another educational institution - Goldsmiths College. I taught all courses and acted as administrator, cleaner, Librarian cafe assistant and Warden. Based upon Goldsmiths main policy of 'Student-Centered Learning', students were approached and invited to take up a 15 minute course in a subject of their choosing. Instead of being limited to the more traditional subjects, the students could choose to do a course in absolutely anything they wanted. School replicated all the usual facilities, systems and procedures that most educational institutions use. School had it's own Fees Office, Teaching Room, Lecture Hall, Cafe, Admissions Office, Library and Student Support Office. Students went through paperwork in the admissions office and the fees office before starting their course. They were asked to pay pro rata fees calculated from the fees charged by Goldsmiths. A 15 minute course for Home students cost 60p and £2.40 for Overseas. Once I had been informed of a student's choice of subject I then had an hour or two to prepare a 15 minute course. To fuel my need for material for the courses in my own school, I used the computer and library facilities of Goldsmiths. Courses taught ranged from Oral Sex to French and from 'How to start your own business' to Belly Dancing. |
